I am a customer of Vi. I received a call from number +917045416876 at 11:01 am on 29/04/21. Thinking it might be some friend whose contact is not saved, I received the call. It said, "Thank you for choosing sports content. You will be charged Rs.5". I immediately cut it and the very moment I received a text from company stating Rs. 5 has been deducted from your account. I checked with customer care if any value added service is activated and there wasn't any. Then I called customer care operative and explained and he immediately promised of balance to be refunded to account. It is of course refunded. But, I asked why I received such a call and all I got were vague and unrelated answers. My compliant is, this is no less than a theft. I am an aware consumer, so I called and got my money back. But what about people who don't know all these things? This is simply theft of their money. Let's say a 10000 users receive such a system generated call, as they said to me, "by default", a huge amount of Rs. 5 lakh is deducted from these users. It is not a small sum. Furthermore, a service provider knows what device you are using. They can easily target rural customers who can't afford 3 month Rs. 599 recharge and have just talktime balance in their cells. Another thing is, company calls are generally starting from 1400. But in my case it is like just an unsaved contact. This is cunning. Furthermore they have no valid reason for sending system generated call to a user without any confirmation that too from a number anyone will receive and deduct balance. This is a serious issue even if the amount deducted from individual user seems small. Company should have some etiquettes and proper guidelines reaching out to users for value added services and not harass them like this. Sending you the necessary evidence. Expecting action as sooner as possible.
