As a consumer, I am not sure if justice exists in this country anymore. I am sure that it is more of a sellers market today and very little for a buyer. But I am also hoping that there will be some solution to my problem after writing to the Council for Fair Business Practices.
My name is Perpetual Rodrigues. I had visited the Home Interiors Exhibition at MMRDA grounds in Bandra Kurla complex in October 2010 (almost 4 months back). I had come across Sonora wooden flooring and spoken to their boss who was present there at that time. Wanting to get wooden flooring done in my 140sq ft bedroom of our new home, I made a deal with Sonora at the exhibition. Spoken to the boss Mr. Roshan (mobile no. 9820069611). He asked me to pay an advance which he said will be adjusted with the final payment of the flooring. He told me someone will visit my place and take exact measurements and then give me the final quotation. However he assured me that the total would not be more than Rs.12000/- for the flooring and the side skirting(as they call it) he mentioned my advance amount on their brochure and signed the same and told me that someone would contact us soon.
Around Mid november we were contacted my Mr. Arvind (mobile no. 09594905518) who visited our house for the measurements and gave us a quotation of approx 13000/-. As our house was under renovation we asked them to deliver the product in the first week of Dec.Post this product didn’t not get delivered in spite of the hundreds of calls and messages initiated by me. They stated that their goods were stuck in Octroi near some checknaka as their goods come from Bhiwandi and hence they would deliver it by 10th dec. Weeks passed by and no one bothered to inform us of what was happening. After all the attempts I made failed I was very agitated and contacted their boss Mr. Roshan who said he would give me a small discount for all the trouble and delay. I insisted on the flooring been done by Christmas at least as we had guest coming over.
As expected they didn’t show up and stated that Mr. Arvind had gone on a holiday and no one knew what quotation he had given us and hence someone would need to come visit our home again for measurements. We agreed and then some guy named Mr. Hemal (mobile no. 9870451221) showed up who took measurements and then gave me a quotation of 16000/-.This gave me and my husband a shock as we were no prepared for this over budgeted flooring and were no given this rate at the Bandra Exhibition. We again contacted Mr. Roshan and told him instead of a discount his men have given us a higher rate. He said he would sort that out. Finally on the 28th Dec 2010 we received our flooring from some distributors named Arihant Sales Corporation. Address – 33 Shantinath shopping centre, S.V. road, malad west, Mumbai 400064. Then I received a call from Mr. Arvind who stated that the Rs.500/- advance that were paid would be adjusted with the skirting and we would need to make full payment for the flooring. We agreed to the same and paid Rs.9898/- for the flooring on 28 Dec 2010. Mr. Arvind then informed us that our skirting would be an additional 3300 from which the 500 advance would be deducted but we would have to pay Rs.500 for transportation of the skirting. We were once again feeling cheated and were furious with all the hidden costs. We however agreed to pay 450 for the transportation of the skirting. The skirting arrived around 9th Jan 2011. We paid the taxi guy Rs.450/- as promised and he left. Then next day Mr. arvind came to fit the skirting and it was observed that the skirting pieces were defective and had some bubbles coming up. My husband rejected that pieces and asked Mr. arvind to arrange for proper skirting once again.
Since then we have not received any call from Mr. Arvind. He does not answer our calls. The boss Mr. Roshan says he has left Sonora as he was having trouble with them. Roshan asked us to talk to Mr. Ashish (Mobile no. 9892641072) who is a Sonora distributor. On doing so Mr. Ashish told us that our skirting would cost Rs.4100/- plus transportation Rs.500/- All at Sonora claim that Mr. arvind still works there but is busy with some other project and is not answering any of their calls too.
As of today I feel completely helpless and cheated. I have spent so much money in calling and messaging them. I have all their messages as a proof of the harassment we have gone through. Our 500 Rs. Deposit is still pending with them and our skirting is still not delivered. Almost four months now and my small 140sq feet bedroom is still half complete. We have the flooring but no skirting. All dust is filling in the open edges. Their defective skirting pieces are still lying with us and our hope of completing our dream home is still undone. The nos given by them on their brochure is incorrect – 2232185151. Don’t even know if their postal address will be same.
There is no where we can or nothing we can do expect for trusting in some resolution from you.
